A general letdown.(21-11-2009)
I got this for my .38 snubbie with a black fixed blade front sight, thinking it would add visibility to aid in sight acquisition and maybe glow a bit. Turns out that the glow stuff on my watch hands holds a "light charge" better than this paint. It also takes several coats to even start showing up, and - when dried - is not even close to the "high visibility" idea I had for a front sight. The bright orange became a dull red that was actually harder to pick up than the original black. Then, after I had actually applied enough of the stuff to see, it peeled completely off after a couple of holsterings.
DOESNT STAY ON!(29-06-2010)
I used this to 'Renew' the white dot sights on my 1911. I thoroughly cleaned them before applying this product. It just seems to 'Rub Off' after a few good cleanings. Also, the colors are NOT the Bright 'Reds, Oranges. and Greens'not what you'd expect. They're dull and uselees for sights. I ended up buying some appliance white epxoy paint for $3 at the hardware store. It works great! This product is a waste of times and money.
A bit disappointing(06-11-2009)
I don't think that this paint is very useful. I wasn't expecting a true night sight effect like Tritium, but this paint doesn't even glow as well as special glow-in-the-dark paint found in hardware stores. The colors are weak but they do dry darker than the wet paint in the small jars.
I needed it to color non-changeable small front sights on stainless steel handguns. It added some color but not much. It takes 24 hours to dry so don't expect to use it quickly for changing backgrounds.
Bright Sights - Good Stuff(04-03-2010)
I have used this product on the front and rear sights on a CZ75B and a 1911 Colt. I like orange the best because its highly visible; much brighter than the S&W revolver red ramp. Cleaning the sight with acetone before painting the sight makes the paint adhere much better. I use it on my carry pistol and when the paint becomes a bit worn I just remove the paint with acetone and then repaint. The paint isn't supposed to glow in the dark but thats not a problem with me because I practice in low light and am able to use plain black sights well only if a bit more slowly. If you want your sight to glow then get a tritium type sight.
Don't Waste Your Money or Time(28-03-2010)
I bought it to color the sight on my stainless Beretta so I can see it. The paint is tacky and gooey from the time you open the bottle, it doesn't brush on or apply as they recommend with a toothpick. A complete waste of money, I am back where I started minus about two hours of fussing with this paint.
Inexpensive and easy to use(25-05-2010)
I find the plain colors work better than the "ghost glow" paints. Preparation is the key, however.
Be sure to degrease the front sight well. Use acetone (nail polish remover), isopropyl alcohol or any good degreasing agent. Be sure to wipe the surface clean afterwards. The paint is thick. Applying with a toothpick into "dot" recesses is easy. On ramped sights, use clear tape on the sides to avoid spillover. Apply to each serration with the toothpick, and spread to even out the coating. Let it dry for at least 8 hours to 24 hours to harden.
The paints aren't bothered by solvents, but penetrating oils might get under and lift them so use caution there. Orange and day-glo green seem to work very well with any kind of lighting.
Works fine for recessed dot sights(12-11-2012)
Works great for filling in the dots on three dot sights.
Just a little patience(04-02-2014)
I use 91% alcohol to degrease. Allow time to dry. I do not use mechanical drying devices such as hair dryers or heat guns. Paint takes at minimum 24 hrs to dry. I use both a long wooden pick and a small artist brush with the bristles cut off about half and at an angle. I put one coat of flat base white paint on first.Give ample time to dry. Apply first coat of orange. Wait 24 hrs and apply second coat of orange. After this dries apply a coat of clear finger nail polish. Job is finished.
Absolute waste of money(19-09-2015)
This is advertised as a product that will produce a bright, easy to see sight. That is completely untrue. After thoroughly cleaning a front sight blade with de-natured alcohol and letting it dry, this paint went on so thin as to be virtually invisible. After drying, it did not glow, despite the fact I mixed the "ghost glow" into the paint. If you are looking for a high visibility paint, do not buy this junk!
Use anything else - even White Out(16-11-2016)
Bought this at a LGS because Brownell's was sold out. Truly an exceptionally poor product. Cleaned beyond what they specified with both Birchwood Casey Cleaner/Degreaser and then again with a hairspring cleaner. Tried to apply the product each time and was so dissatisfied with the results that I'm contacting the company and asking for a full refund to include tax and shipping.
Save your money and go buy some nail polish in the right color.
Disappointment(04-11-2017)
I bought this for use in the shop if needed. No bottles were ever opened and when I went to use it was so thick it was difficult to apply a dot with the dabber. I e-mailed and phoned Bright Sights asking for help and never herd back. Contacted True Glo who lists it as one of their products asked to talk to someone and they took my name and number and never returned my call. Very disappointed.
Great bright sight paint(07-02-2018)
Yes it is a little hard to work with, but as others have said, patience and prep are the keys to success here. First thorough cleaning and degreasing are a must. Next I place the slide of the pistol in a padded vise pointing down. Make sure the paint is warm (room temp at least). Then with a toothpick slowly apply a very small drop of paint and build it up in several layers as needed for your dot size. I have used this technique on 2 sets of novak sights and one m&p sights. The m&p has held up for 5 + years without a retouch, on daily carry weapons.
Now to the issue of brightness. These are very bright in all but the darkest of conditions. I have one pistol that I applied the ghost glow to and I have mixed feelings about it. First after applying the ghost glow it makes the base paint a little bit dull but still usable in normal light. However if you charge the ghost glow with a tactical light for as little as 15 seconds it does glow bright enough and long enough to clear a large house with. I use a tactical light in any and all low / no light situations and the bright sights paint just jumps out at you and is super easy to pick up your sights. I would absolutely recommend this product sans the ghost glow, I think the decreased brightness of the sights in daylight detracts enough that I probably won't use the ghost glow again. The brightness of the base paint is great in normal light and when used with a light.
