BE CAREFUL! the manufacturer, 5 star, has 2 part #s for this item. J1-357/38 and J2-357/38. ONLY THE FIRST IS LISTED UNDER SPEED LOADERS IN THE BROWNELLS AND I NEEDED J2 FOR MY MODEL 642-2 S&W. THEY DO NOT INTERCHANGE!

this WAS NOT Brownells fault and I cleared it up by going to mfg website. customer service allowed me to return and exchange for another item, since what I needed was not in stock at the time.

Excellent quality but counterintuitive (19-08-2018)

I have both the J1 and J2 speedloaders from 5 star. They are very high quality and machined nicely. You can also get them in different colors but that costs extra. These speedloaders tend to be sized to specific revolvers better than the ones from HKS, they also tend to fit more smoothly into the smaller revolvers. My only complaint is the rotate backwards from the HKS. It's a righty-tighty lefty-loosy sort of thing. This may make sense in theory but it's awful in practice. For a right handed person like me, turning the knob clockwise is easier than turning it counter-clockwise, it's simple body mechanics. 5 star has you turn the knob counter-clockwise to release the cartridges, which is counterintuitive and slows down the reloading process. Even after a few years of experience with 5 Star loaders I can still reload faster with HKS, and HKS doesn't fit the gun as nicely as 5 Star. I also just purchased my first set of Bianchi speed strips and within minutes of handling them I was able to load just as fast with those as I can with a 5 Star. With practice the speed strips will be faster than the 5 Star and the 5 Star will end up in the junk drawer.

These are gravity-assisted, they will drop the rounds into the cylinder, they will not place them.

If the cylinder chambers get dirty it will not work.

Works Just Fine (19-08-2014)

Almost feels like plastic, even though aluminum, but it works just perfect, holds both .45LC and .410 shells just fine. A little disconcerting because the lock/unlock is the opposite of HKS speedloaders, but it is a firm lock and easy load into Taurus Judge.

Great for JUDGE (27-08-2016)

Solid, works great. I agree with rating comparing with HKS loaders since control knob is reversed. I would not mix in a competition to avoid confusion.

Doesn't hold .45 Long Colt (25-06-2017)

These J5 Speed Loaders do a great job on holding the .410 shells but when I put the .45 LC into them, they just fall out. I wanted the ones that will hold the .45 as well as the .410 but I guess it doesn't happen. This is the 2nd time I have ordered these and even though they say they are for both, they are not. The .410 shell has a smaller diameter than the .45 LC. They are not compatible. I know it shows it with both calibers in the picture but what I got was only .410 no .45.

Ruger .44 GP100 Lovers (25-08-2017)

For those who are looking for GP100 .44 Spec. loaders these are the best. Those for the CA Bulldog are too small.

They work - with 410 no issue - great - but with 45 long colt ammo - first cartridges would not stay - tried another manufacturer and they seem to work for the cartridges - glad I tried a second cartridge - quality seems excellent - may have to contact 5star for cartridge only speed loaders.

Used for SW 327PD (24-10-2011)

They fit the SW327pd, and they are the best ones I've found so far. However the rounds bounce around a lot when secured, and the unit is so large that it is difficult to align with the cylinder.

Good American product (02-05-2012)

Best built loader i have ever owned/high quality and works great. The rounds fit a bit loose, but with practice i have become faster and it seems that the wobble tends to work to you're advantage due to the amount of rounds it holds.

They seem to be made very well . I have 7 of them and they work great. They are also very easy to use.
