Well Made, Tight Tolerance, Case Trimmer(19-07-2010)
This is a well made trimmer that is fairly simple to use (given you can read a micrometer)and produces even and repeatable results. I measured each case (I'm kind of picky) after trimming and was getting no more than .002" difference on a batch of fifty .257 Roberts cases. Make sure your cases are firmly against the micrometer before engaging the shark fin to avoid any deviation in your final result. i would have given it 5 stars, but the handle on the cutter chattered a bit, however nothing a little powdered graphite couldn't remedy. Also be sure to keep the cutter well lubed for smooth operation.
Work of art!(20-07-2010)
Really fantastic piece of hardware. Does what it says on the box - and looks awesome to boot.
Lives up to its name(13-10-2010)
This really is the ultimate case trimmer. The quality of the materials and workmanship is excellent. I found it very easy to quickly install/remove cases. Once you get a rhythm going, you can trim cases quickly. The consistency in length of the trimmed cases is very good. I measured the trimmed/deburred cases with a 4-decimal-place micrometer (bear with me, I'm an engineer) and found them to vary from the average length by only +/-0.0006 inches. The trimmer's micrometer head is really handy if you reload multiple calibers. Once is it correctly zeroed you can dial in whatever case length you want. I can adjust it and then return to the previous value to within +/-0.0002 inches. This thing is awesome!
THE BEST TRIMMER EVER(11-11-2010)
This trimmer, SIMPLY PUT, IS THE BEST EVER. I have just trimmed 150 new 300WSM cases using the hand crank. It is smooth, precise and easy to change to the next case to be trimmed. I will be getting a power drill attachment for it soon. I would like to see some additional cutters for it, say maybe:- inside mouth chamfer, outside mouth deburr and a primer pocket uniformer. I shoot F CLASS and I do demand perfection from all of my equipment. I highly recommend it.
RICHIE NEIL from AUSTRALIA
it is just as advertised the ultimate(03-12-2010)
this is the best trimmer on the market i have had 3 other so called trimmers none of them have been as accurate i only picked mine up this morning within 1 hour i had set it up andtrimmed 50 223 cases well done to who ever designed this product i would recomend this trimmer to all my friends john cropper manchester england
The best trimmer on the market(02-01-2011)
I replaced an RCBS trimmer with the Sinclair Stainless Ultimate Trimmer with no regrets. I also purchased the power screwdriver options. I can now dial my measurement to .001 an actual get a case that measures what it is suppose to. The case holder insures that the case is trimmed square. I also needed to the stainless steel version as I load in my garage and live in Florida with high humidity. Great Product!
Excellent trimmer(09-02-2011)
I shoot high power rifle competitions. The amount of ammo I produce and shoot is ridiculous. This trimmer is excellent. I can sit down for an hour, and have at least 200 .223 cases trimmed. Every single case is exactly the same length, and square every time. I would recommend this trimmer to anyone that shoots a lot of ammo that also has to be high quality, and accurate.
Quality trimmer(09-02-2011)
When I first started reloading, I used a collet type trimmer. I never could get the cases seated right and it was downright frustrating and left too much room for inaccuracy. I upgraded to the Wilson unit with the micrometer and I feel I have the absolute best manual case trimmer. Easy to use, precise, and beautifully machined. I made a simple tray/block for it to both catch brass shavings and give me something to tap cases out of the holders. I set the whole thing in my lap so I'm not tied down to the bench when I'm trimming cases.
sinclair case trimmer(10-02-2011)
use this trimmer to trim brass after a couple of reloadings as far as im concerned there is not a more accurate trimmer on market takes a little bit to get used to but once you have it figured out the trim lengths are practically identical a little expensive but well worth the price
I will upgrade my old one(10-02-2011)
This trimmer is very accurate, and cuts a very square case.
ultimate trimmer(16-02-2011)
This is the bomb. It is very precise and easy to use. I have a Forster version which is not any where near as consistent and easy to use. I highly recommend it
Good to go!(16-02-2011)
Great quality, works just as advertised, right on the money. Didn't even have to calibrate and trim length on the micrometer is exactally the same as my calipers read. Not super-fast, but gives a perfect trim. Customer service from Wilson is super--had a custom made 458 SOCOM case holder [...]
Stainless Steel Ultimate Trimmer(19-02-2011)
" In the past I have used two different trimmers, one hand operated and one powered, with mixed results. I recently picked up the new Sinclair Stainless Ultimate Trimmer. What a treat!
It's easy to use, it made very quick work of my heavy military once-fired LC brass in 30-06. Perfectly square case mouths every time. The micrometer adjuster makes it easy to move from caliber to caliber, even the big magnums, and back again with precision. Two thumbs up!!!
One of the best trimmers I ever used(10-03-2011)
I have used a lot of manufacturers trimmers but this is the finest crafted and functioning piece of art ever.
Best there is!(28-03-2011)
This is the best case trimmer on the market. I know because I have tried the competition. It is quick to set up, easy to use and the results are consistent and repeatable. I highly recommend this trimmer.
Worth the Money(18-04-2011)
Best trimmer I have used. Measured the case length before use, set dial to desired length, and measured after use. Case length was spot on to desired length after use.
Often Out of Stock Because IT IS SO GOOD(27-05-2011)
I've had other 'micrometer' based trimmers. Collets and universal case holders, just never seemed consistently accurate and often left the case mouth out of square.
THIS one is outstanding. I set it up on a pre-drilled wooden base, secured it to my workbench. Trimmed my first .308 case, saw that it was (ahem) a couple of hundreths off and re-zeroed, bingo... 100 nearly PERFECT trimmed cases with a plus or minus of 0.0002 (trimmed to 2.005 and occasionally got 2.0048 or 0051).
The Wilson case holder is just that.. holds the case and the shark fin (weird name, just swings over the 'case holder' to prevent cutter caused rotation) holds the 'two' against the micrometer end while the 'cutter' moves in, a few turns (I've got the electric screwdriver adapter, neat) and a square cut at PERFECT length, time and time again. I am paranoid from prior trimmers but I did some 100 cases in less than 40 minutes and it was just the second use. Place the case into the holder 'base/rim' at the scoured end of the case holder, tap the base on a soft piece of wood or cork (you just don't want it to turn), slap into the trimmer, move the fin over it, trim, move the fin off, tap the case mouth to remove it. Really takes only seconds. An excellent heavy duty product. And so accurate!
Great Trimmer(22-07-2011)
Best I have used. Consistency is to the .0001" (ten thousandth). Cuts mouth perfectly square and makes for easy chamfering. Also does other operations like inside reaming (removing doughnut), and primer pocket uniforming. Cutter is very high quality and cuts quickly.
I built a 3" wood block to mount mine on and just tap the cases out of the holders with a folded up rag. Clamp it to your bench or kitchen table and not take up any permenant real-estate.
Make sure you get holders for "new" (or FL sized) and "fired" cases for each caliber. They are not interchangeable.
Too bad they can't keep it in stock.
BEST ON THE MARKET(23-11-2011)
This is a trimmer where the micrometer actually correlates to the amount of material being removed. I love the machine.
Excellent Trimmer - the most accurate(04-01-2012)
The perfect trimmer, although a tool to attach a power driver would be nice.
Great trimmer(08-05-2012)
Decided to take the plunge and buy a good and accurate case trimmer. After reading the reviews of different trimmers I settled on the LE Wilson trimmer. Boy I could not be happier. First case I trimmed was spot on for size. The micrometer makes it easy to change from one case to next and know you are at the correct size every time. The only con it the cost and needing a different shell holder for each different case. But that is just a onetime cost and this trimmer will last a life time. I have a little rule when buying tools, if you are only using the tool once buy a cheap one and if you plan to use the tool often buy a good quality tool. This is as good quality tool on the market as you'll find. They named this tool correctly when they called it the Ultimate Trimmer.
Fantastic Product!!!!!!!(23-05-2012)
I just received my Sinclair Stainless Ultimate Trimmer and it doesn't get any better than this. Very easy to use, but more importantly is that it is spot-on accurate. I was trimming some 30-06 Springfield brass and I set the trimmer to the trim to length of 2.484 inches. I measured every trimmed case with my calipers and each case was perfectly trimmed. Every case was perfect in length and the case holdder keeps the case mouth perfectly aligned with the cutter. There is not one bad thing I can say about this product. It is truly awesome.
the best trimmer on the market(06-08-2012)
easy to use once you do a couple pieces of brass , not much more to say than what everyone else has said ,great trimmer
Simply the Best(07-09-2012)
I can't imagine how to make this a better product. Perhaps by bundling it with a Redding powder measure stand clamp that I use to hold it onto my reloading bench. The micrometer is both accurate and precise. I can quickly develop a rythym with the Wilson case holders to pick up a shell, tap it in, trim, then tap it out. All with my left hand while the right operates the clamp and the handle.
Best trimmer I've ever used(02-10-2012)
Very impressed with the trimmer. The platform works well, and the calibration was perfect out of the box. I really like the logic of keeping the case rock solid whilst trimming. Very happy.
Spot on accurate!(01-04-2013)
The only reason I give this a 4 star rating is because the trimmers handle fell apart within the first week. Otherwise, this trimmer is awesome! Every single case turns out exactly the same length, first case to last case, and each is square. I love it!
Excellent value(03-05-2014)
I bought this after trying a Lyman and there is no comparison. I am reloading .223 and .243 rounds. The design of the Sinclair addresses all that is wrong with the Lyman, RCBS, Hornady, etc. The rail system and case holder utilized by the Sinclair is so superior for accurate and easy trimming that there is no comparison between the two. No need for pilot bits or trying t seat the casing perfectly (which is impossible with the Lyman and similar designs). Know that you will pay about "double" for the Sinclair/Wilson, but the job to be done is accurate, repeated case size trimming, right? Well, the Sinclair stainless ultimate trimmer is superior to the others and will not disappoint. I had to re-zero a few thousandths, but it was right on for me right out of the box.
Best trimmer on the market(12-03-2015)
This is without a question the best trimmer on the market. I typically use a giraud trimmer for my 223, 308 and 300 blackout when I don't care too much about the OAL (within 0.003"). I break this bad boy out when I expect extreme accuracy and it does not disappoint.
I get 0.0005" (within the limit of my caliper) every single time.. Not almost every time, every single round. I am amazed how accurate this thing is. It's important to "hammer" each case in and out of the round holder to keep it from spinning, and of course make sure you don't have lube on it. If you do that, you can expect this trimmer to exceed your expectations.
Only complaint is that everything is made of steel (not stainless) and it builds up surface rust over time. If you live in a remotely humid place you can expect it to surface rust (even if you leave it coated in Birchwood casey).
Other than having to knock off the occational rust with a fine steel wool pad, I'm absolutely thrilled with this purchase.
I find no pros here(17-03-2015)
Have been nothing but disappointed with the Wilson case trimmer (I don't have the Sinclair micrometer but the original Wilson).
The first one I received I had parts shipping forth and back with Wilson. Even after that trimmer would not cut square. The guide rods were crooked, originals as well as replacements sent. The cutter bearing diameter was off by a few thousands which caused the case mouth to vibrate while cutting, and the stop screw on the micrometer side came in at an angle, which should not have affected accuracy but for a pricey product like this I would not expect this. Wilson told me to use a New Case holder for full-sized cases, so I ordered one. Well, full-sized cases don't fit into this New case holder. Maybe it is out of spec, but I am done fishing for answers. I replaced the entire thing figuring I had just received a lemon. Out of the box the shark fin of the new trimmer kit did not fix the case holder. The finish had broken off on the underside of the fin (where it clamps down on the case holder). So I replaced it with the one from the previous trimmer (thankfully I had not yet returned the old one). Again, the rods have longitudinal scratches and if one tries to rotate them in their grooves you can feel their unevenness. This is detrimental to accuracy of the cut. All of that said, and not surprising, the replacement also does not cut square and I have just decided to return it, after fighting with this for many months, with the associated frustration.
My 2¢(25-03-2016)
As most other reviewers have said, this is probably the best manual case trimer out there. I was on the fence between this one, or, just spending more for the Dillon RT1500. My volume needs and the fact I didnât want to deal with the noise were the main factors here, so the Sinclair was the winner.
So far Iâve put about 600 pieces of 223 brass through it. According to my Lyman calipers, the micrometer is off by about 1-2 thousandths of an inch. Either way, I donât really care. You adjust were you want it, lock it down, and thatâs it. If you only trim one caliber like me (for now) it may never be adjusted again.
The use of the case holder offers more than just trimming accuracy. It makes the brass much easier to hold for the follow up chamfering/deburring process which means less fatigue on your hands. I also ream out crimped primer pockets at the same time. I can perform all four steps on a piece of brass in about 22+/- seconds with only touching it once. Outside of how well itâs made, this might be the best pro about it.
This thing could use one accessory in my opinion. Not everyone will need this, but Iâd like to see something purpose built to control brass shaving from flying everywhere. If these shavings get on the floor, and if you have a pet that might walk through it,â¦. Wellâ¦. Just imagine what might happen. Shaving sticks to pets paw(s), pet cleans paw(s), and inadvertently eats the shaving. So Iâve made my own with a clear piece of plastic as seen in the photo I included. And the design of the trimmer works well with a U shape piece of plastic. If you need to control the shavings from flying, feel free to steel my idea.
One other note, I recommend pulling the handle of the crank apart and putting some grease on it. It squeaks a bit.
This is an excellent trimmer. Very repeatable and precise. Although its supposed to be zeroed from the factory, the micrometer setting was 0.10" off on mine. Its a little time consuming to get the zero exactly right but after its set once it shouldn't have to be reset unless the blade is changed. I'm
Awesome Trimmer(23-03-2017)
Just got this today. I read the instructions and set it up and what a great trimmer it is. Each piece of brass I do comes out to the length on the dial and the trimming blade is so sharp it will cut 0.010 off in 2 revolutions. I had a Redding one that I struggled with because I could never just set it and go. I always had to check each piece. After using this one, I check maybe every 10th one. Once you get used to tapping the brass in the holder it's a great tool. Wish I tried it earlier.
Does not work well with drill attachment(12-10-2017)
Worked great & precise as the other reviews said, but after about 75 cases the cutter seized up & the drill attachment bent so I called tech support & nothing could be pin pointed so they replaced got it & I got a new one the next day - got thru 5 cases & the part that screws into the screw driver adapter broke off & again the cutter was starting to seize up. Spoke to tech support again & they could not come up with anything so it was suggested that maybe I should clean the moving parts, especially around the bearing and relub before use. This i will do with the 3rd unit. With this one I will try just turning manually for a 100 or so rounds, if it holds up I will then attach the drive & see how it holds up. The ones I cut are perfect from start to finish and the unit is easy and seem well built but it is just not holding up in the screw driver mode. They have been great helping me work out the problem / getting the replacement to me very quickly / sending a prepaid label for the return helps.
Mounting was a bit of a pain(14-11-2017)
Let's start with round 1:
When I received my first trimmer, the handle end of the cutter shaft was snapped in half right out of the box. Brownell's seemed to be prepared to deal with this issue, overnighted an entirely new unit to me and provided me with prepaid return shipping for the broken one. Great customer service, but it led me to wonder if this is a recurring issue? In addition to this, the micrometer head seemed awfully wobbly. It did not have the feel of a precision product.
Round 2:
My new trimmer arrived and I couldn't wait to set it up and get working! I grabbed a couple of 1/4" bolts and my drill and headed to my bench. Turns out, the holes in the base of the trimmer are 3/16", a size I don't normally keep around. So I head back to the garage and grab some wood screws and washers for a temporary fix. The next problem that pops up is that the mounting holes are directly beneath the lathe bed, preventing me from using even a short screwdriver. What a pain! I had an angle head driver on hand, so I still managed to mount the trimmer, but it seemed like a little bit of thought on the part of the manufacturer may have made mounting a little easier or universal. The micrometer on this unit seemed a much better fit and didn't have any play.
As for the performance of the trimmer, I love it! Right out of the gate I'm trimming at +/- .0005. Huge upgrade from my Lee press mounted trimmer that was giving me +/- .005. Once all the issues were worked out, it's a great product.
Outstanding Trimmer(11-12-2017)
I purchased this trimmer to replace a different brand case trimmer that I had used for many years. The older trimmer had served well but had gotten dull and was tedious to work with, requiring many turns of the crank to trim cases. It was also difficult to adjust when switching calibers. When the new trimmer arrived, I assembled it and did a quick test, using a couple of .223 cases. The micrometer adjustment is a quantum leap forward in accuracy and I was amazed at how quickly and effortlessly it trimmed cases to length. It has made an onerous task much easier and faster. Highly recommended!
