Great Bullet(08-11-2012)
Just like all of its brothers and sisters the 6.5mm 100g A-Max is very accurate and good shooting bullet. Since my 6.5mm BR Improved is built on an AR-15 platform these shorter bullets will seat to magazine length quite easily. Excellent for bench rest paper punching or knocking down short to medium range steel plates.
I will continue to use this product.(29-04-2012)
I shoot a 30/06 with this bullet and am working my way out to 1000 yards. I weigh each round (bullet and powder) digitally and these bullets have always been consistently in weight tolerances. I shoot less than .5 MOA at 100 yards. The heavy bullet weight (178 grains) is great for bucking Oklahoma winds.
Most Accurate!(02-11-2014)
I have tried matchking bullets, nosler custom comp., and now the Hornady A-Max 178gr. in my .308 tactical rifle. The 178gr. A-max is by far the most accurate of all the bullets I have tested. If you have not tryed them you need to! You won't regret it!
Very Surprising Results(05-05-2016)
I have been working up loads with the AMAX 178 and the SMK 175. In each round of tests I am getting accuracy that betters the SMK. I am a SMK fan to be honest. I am going to continue load development to see if the results continue. Another interesting note is I am seeing a velocity increase at the same powder charge. In my case RL15 43.4 grains. On average I am seeing a 32 fps velocity increase with this bullet. Barrel is a 22" Bartlein.
Awesome round!!!(29-11-2011)
My DPMS LR-308 loves this round, 16" heavy barrell with 1-10 twist. Extemely happy with the results that this bullet can produce. Can produce sub-MOA accuracy @ 100 yards with this bullet.
1 hole groups at 100yds (5 rounds)(12-12-2012)
0.475 BC at 2730fps, Lapua brass, Win Primers, Varget powder, Rem 700 ADL 26" barrel, at 100yds shoots consistant 0.5 inch and under five shot groups.
Thanks Hornady!!!
I ordered more 168's to keep the "magic recipe" going. I tested more than 5 types of Sierras and one other Hornady- the 178gr A-max. The 168gr A-max took first in accuracy followed by the 178gr A-max. Each group was shot, the barrel allowed to cool down for 5-10 minutes, then resumed with chronograph recording FPS load consistancy for grouping data.
300 Blackout(26-11-2015)
Shot the bullet today (26 Nov 2015) in a 300 blk cartridge. 50 yards in the great colorado cold using accurate 1680, first set could have been better at the specified COL 2.220, second set at 2.210 were in the same hole. I'm sure the first set could have been the same since they were my first shots. Love hornady bullets.
Fabulous Bullet(12-09-2017)
I purchased a Remington 40x in .308 and was given different favorite load data which showed use of SMK bullets. I took the data and loaded the Hornady A-Max 155's as well as 150 gr SMK's and went to the range. At 200 yards, I shot 199-15x with the Hornady's, 200-10x with the SMK's from the bench. The one 9 was a called flyer -- I missed a wind shift. So as far as I am concerned the Hornady's outperformed the SMK's. And at a better price point, too! I'll use up my SMK's for practice until they're gone and stick to Hornady A-Max for matches.
Great penetrator!(20-12-2013)
Muley's, white tail and antelope don't stand a chance with this round in a 1-9.5 or better twist. Accuracy from 80 to 420 yards is incredible and penetration is outstanding.
mid-range target shooting champ(04-07-2014)
I shoot 6BR in F-class, mid-range, and out to 600 yards this is my "go to" bullet. In my Savage 12 F-class, with Lapua brass and Varget powder, accuracy of half-minute of angle is to be expected.
Now if I could just find some more for sale!
.224 75g A-Max(12-04-2011)
Outstanding performance and consistency, high B.C. at a reasonable cost.
Good solid performer(09-09-2012)
I have shot a few hundred of these and have found good accuracy. After some tuning, I get consistent .3 MOA groups.
The only thing that keeps me from giving 5 stars is the length variation between the ogive and the tip, forcing you to use a comparator to set overall length, which is good practice. COAL is pretty meaningless with these bullets
